Getting used to using my new lighting “toys”.

This was a publicity shot for an upcoming conference that Carole was hosting. She needed a headshot that was friendly and informal, yet looked professional.

Lighting info: 2′ soft box camera right just in front of Carole. Large white reflector camera left behind Carole to kick some light back onto her face.

ISO 100, f4.5, 1/80 shutter.

A while since my last post…

Have recently got some new lighting equipment for portraits. Have done a couple of test shots and am posting one up here.

For those of you who are interested, the lighting was shot with a 580 EX II in a 2′ square softbox, camera right about 3′ away from Saisha’s face. ISO 100, f5.6 and 1/30 shutter to get some of the ambient light in from the background. Other light is all ambient.

N – skywriting at night… for my wife (Nic). Shot handheld. Taken with an exposure of around 2 or 3 seconds. I focused on a street lamp, then carefully moved the camera to write an “N”. It kind of works. Not going to win any awards, but a different way to take a photo!

A Different Kind of Shoot

Last year I donated a prize of a photo shoot to a charity raffle. I had assumed someone would want some portraits of the family. I ended up taking shots of model cars, trucks and planes. Was actually quite good fun and after a delay with the organising, I am just about to deliver the prints to them.

Saul – (or Tin Tin as I like to call him…yes his parents do know I said that!) A shot from a shoot I did at the end of last year. This is the only photo the parents have of him smiling! I don’t usually do baby shoots, but fancied a challenge and was for my cousin-in-law!
